You’ve obviously found us, and you’re curious about what we do, or maybe you’ve got a window, a bay window, where you think, well, I wonder whether they can help me with this. Well, we’d certainly like to try.
Providing Details for Your Curtain Needs
So get in touch with us via the contact form. If you use your mobile to do this, then you’ll find that there’s a button you can press to upload a photo. So stand well back from your window, take a full shot of the window so we can see the top, the sides around the bay, and especially the windowsill. So just a big long shot to start with.
And then add a few details in of how you think you would like your curtains to hang on your window, such as:
- down to the window sill within the bay
- in front of the windowsill within the bay
- or maybe in front of the windowsill down to the floor
- coming out onto the returns on each side of the bay into the room
So give us that information, send us the photo, and we’ll get back to you within twenty-four hours in 99.9% of cases, and we’ll give you some more options. So I look forward to, helping you.

Unsure which track to choose? Then use our super simple Curtain Track Finder. This asks you a few questions and then recommends the right curtain track for your situation.
Just measure the full width around your bay (plus 20–30 cm each side if you want the curtains to sit outside the bay). Close accuracy comes later when you fill in the final template.
You can watch this video as an example of how to measure your bay. This is what we call a “Splay bay with returns”. Each bay shape has it’s own video measuring guide.
Quick steps to measure your splay bay with returns:
- Stick post-it notes around your bay and label them with letters.
- Measure between each letter point from the front edge of the sill.
- Record each size in its own box on the final sizes form.
- Check diagonals: B–E (straight across), B–D, and E–C.
- Measure how much the sill sticks out on each return wall (enter 0 if no sill).
Let me show you how to measure your splay bay window with returns for a custom-made curtain track. This will be fixed to the ceiling within the bay, with returns coming out on each side.
Step 1: Add measuring points
Place small post-it notes around your bay and label them with letters. This makes it simple to measure accurately from point to point.
Step 2: Take your bay measurements
- Measure from the front edge of the window sill, facing into the room.
- Follow the bay around, measuring between each lettered point.
- Enter each measurement into its own box on the final sizes form.
Step 3: Check diagonals
- Measure straight across the bay from point B to point E.
- Measure diagonally from point B to point D.
- Measure diagonally from point E to point C.
Step 4: Measure returns
Finally, measure how much the sill projects out on each return. Place the tape under the sill and read from the front edge.
If there’s no sill on the return wall, simply enter 0 in the box on the final sizes form.
That’s it!
Once you’ve entered all the measurements, your splay bay with returns is ready for a made-to-measure track. And remember — if you’re unsure about anything, just get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
