How to Add or Remove Curtain Track Gliders
Hi, I’m Lee Stevens from ezecurtains.co.uk. Here’s a quick, no-nonsense guide to adding or removing gliders from the curtain tracks you buy from us. It’s a simple job and takes just a minute.
What You May Need
- Your fingers (usually enough)
- Small pliers (only if the end parts feel tight)
1) Loosen the End Fittings
- On the end of the track you’ll see a small silver eyelet. Twist it anticlockwise to loosen.
- Remove the end cap. Most of the time you can do this with your fingers; if it’s snug, gently use pliers.
2) Remove or Add Gliders
- To remove: Slide the gliders straight off the open end of the track.
- To add: Feed the extra gliders into the open end of the track.
3) Refit and Tighten
- Push the end cap back into place.
- Twist the silver eyelet clockwise until snug. Hand-tight is usually fine; only use pliers if needed.
Important Note for Overlapping Tracks
Do not remove the end caps from the centre overlap. Those centre caps are crimped in place to prevent movement. Always add or remove gliders from the outer ends of the track.
All Done
That’s it! Quick and simple. If you get stuck or something feels unusually tight, just get in touch and I’ll talk you through it.
In a nutshell: Twist off the end cap, slide gliders out or in, then refit — always from the outer ends only.
Quick Steps
- Twist the silver eyelet anticlockwise and remove the end cap.
- Slide gliders off to remove, or feed extras in to add.
- Refit the end cap and tighten the eyelet clockwise.
Tip: For overlapping tracks, only remove end caps from the outside — the centre ones are crimped in place.
Why You Might Adjust Your Gliders
- You’re reusing curtains with a different heading and need more/fewer gliders.
- You want a fuller or lighter gather than standard.
- You’ve changed to a different heading style (e.g., pencil pleat vs pinch pleat).
At-a-Glance Cheat Sheet
- Standard rule of thumb for pencil pleat: approx. 20 gliders per metre of track (at ~2× fabric fullness).
- Reusing curtains? Hook them up and count the hooks — that’s how many gliders you need.
- Overlapping tracks: only use the outer ends to add/remove gliders.
Frequently Asked Questions
No — the centre caps are crimped in place. Always add or remove gliders from the outer ends of the track.
Hand-tight is usually perfect. If it feels loose, a gentle tweak with small pliers is fine — don’t overtighten.
As a quick guide, around 20 gliders per metre of track for pencil pleat at ~2× fullness. If you’re reusing curtains, count your hooks for an exact number.
The standard screws and red Uno wall/ceiling plugs are supplied with all out curtain tracks. You only need to buy the Spring toggles if you definitely need them. (See link below the video above)
