Video: 60-Second How-To Add or Remove Corded Curtain Track Gliders
How to Add or Remove Curtain Track Gliders
Introduction
Hi, I’m Lee Stevens from ezecurtains.co.uk. I want to quickly show you how simple it is to add or remove gliders from one of our corded tracks — whether it’s a straight track or a bay track.
Loosening the Pulley End
On the end of the track, you’ll find a pulley. There’s a small screw on the pulley that needs to be loosened with a small Phillips screwdriver. This allows you to slide the pulley off the end of the track.
Tip: Only slide it off slightly so the cords don’t come out of the track too much.
Adding or Removing Gliders
Once the pulley is loosened, you can easily remove gliders or add more back in. Make sure you adjust both sides of the track so that the number of gliders is even.
Refitting the Pulley
Pull the cords from the opposite end so you can slide the pulley back into place. Before tightening the screw, check that the cords are running freely and not trapped. Once checked, tighten the screw securely.
Alternative Method for Adding Gliders
You can also clip gliders directly into the track without removing the pulley. To do this, hook the lug on the glider into the slot and push it forward with your thumb until it clicks into place.
Note: This method only allows you to add gliders — you cannot remove them this way.
Close-Up of the Glider
Looking closely at the glider, you’ll see a slot at the top. As you lever it into the track, the slot compresses slightly to let it pop into place, then springs back open to lock it in.
The hook slot is offset to one side. This should always face the room side of the track to allow your curtains to glide smoothly with minimal friction.
Conclusion
And that’s all there is to it! Hopefully you found this guide useful. Thanks very much for watching.
- Loosen the pulley screw slightly with a small Phillips screwdriver.
- Slide the pulley end off just enough to access the track (don’t pull it too far).
- Remove or add gliders as needed, making sure both sides are even.
- Pull cords tight, check they’re running freely, then re-fit and tighten the pulley.
- Alternative: clip gliders directly into the track (but you can’t remove them this way).
- Ensure the hook slot on the glider faces the room side for smooth curtain movement.
Why You Might Adjust Your Gliders
- You’re reusing curtains with a different heading and need more/fewer gliders.
- You want a fuller or lighter gather than standard.
- You’ve changed to a different heading style (e.g., pencil pleat vs pinch pleat).
At-a-Glance Cheat Sheet
- Standard rule of thumb for pencil pleat: approx. 20 gliders per metre of track (at ~2× fabric fullness).
- Reusing curtains? Hook them up and count the hooks — that’s how many gliders you need.
- Overlapping tracks: only use the outer ends to add/remove gliders.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes- you can add gliders by simply rocking them into the track. However, you can remove the gliders without removing the end pulley.
Yes – The flat side of the glider faces into the room. The simplest way to insert the glider. It to hook it half in the track channel with it pointing towards the window. Then hook your finger behind the glider put firmly forward and the will snap the glider into the channel.
As a quick guide, around 20 gliders per metre of track for pencil pleat at ~2× fullness. If you’re reusing curtains, count your hooks for an exact number.
If you want to remove the end pulley to insert extra gliders. Then you will need a small phillips screwdriver to loosen the little screw on the underside of the pulley. Once loosened a few turns. you can wriggle the pulley off the end of the track.
