“Fed up with that little gap in the middle of your curtains?”
Curtains not overlapping properly is a very common problem with curtain tracks and poles.
- Standard curtain tracks simply let the two curtains butt together in the middle.
- Lower down, the fabric overlaps naturally, but right at the top a light gap almost always appears.
- This isn’t a fault with your curtains — it’s just how single tracks are designed.

The Overlap Track Solution
The only way to properly cure this problem is with a track that allows one curtain to pass in front of the other. That way, your curtains overlap neatly in the middle, with no annoying gap.
You can see how the curtains not only overlap properly here leaving no ugly light gap. But they just hang so much better in the middle of your window.

“One of the simplest ways to keep curtains meeting neatly in the middle — especially on an overlapping track — is to use draw rods. Here’s a quick demo…”
“Curtain draw rods are available as an optional add-on when ordering any of our hand-draw bay tracks. They’re a simple way to keep your curtains opening and closing smoothly without handling the fabric.”
Introduction
Hi, I’m Lee Stevens from ezecurtains.co.uk, and let’s talk about opening and closing your curtains.
This is how most people do it: get hold of the curtain and pull it across the window. Then repeat the same in reverse to close them again.
But what’s the alternative? Let’s take a look.
Using a Curtain Draw Rod
The alternative is using a curtain draw rod. This can be attached to your track and allows you to move your curtains backwards and forwards without handling the fabric directly.
How to Attach the Draw Rod
Here’s the clip on the end of the rod. It has a spring opening that lets you attach it to the glider on the curtain track.
I’ve unhooked the first two hooks on the curtain so we can attach the rod to the second glider in. Don’t attach it to the first one — otherwise, the rod will hang out in view. By clipping it to the second glider, it hangs discreetly behind the curtain.
Operating the Curtains
With the rod hooked onto the glider behind the curtain, you simply reach behind and use the rod to draw the curtain across the window. Repeat on the other side in the same way.
You can also push the curtains back to open them again. The rods let you move curtains smoothly without tugging on the fabric.
Benefits of Curtain Draw Rods
Using draw rods means you avoid handling the curtains directly, which prevents dirt, grease, or hand creams from marking the fabric over time. Your curtains will stay cleaner for longer and look better for years to come.
It makes sense — if you’re spending good money on curtains for large windows, you don’t want grubby marks appearing after just a few months. Curtain draw rods will save you hassle and money in the long run.
Choosing the Right Length
Draw rods come in different lengths: 75cm, 100cm, and 125cm. The higher your window, the longer the rods you’ll need.
Simply measure from the track down to where it’s comfortable for you to reach. Then choose the nearest size or the next one up.
