This particular 7 sided bay has 5 windows flowing gently around the curved part of the bay, with a wall facing inwards at each end.
Those 5 window sections plus the 2 side walls give us the 7 sides we use when measuring and mapping the shape of your bay.
The important thing to remember is that although the bay is measured as 7 sides, the finished curtain track does not always need to follow all 7 of them.

How Do the 5 Windows Become a 7 Sided Bay?
The curved part of this bay is made up of 5 individual window sections.
At each end of those windows there is a wall facing inwards towards the opposite side of the bay.
When we measure the bay, those two walls form part of the overall shape:
1 side wall + 5 windows + 1 side wall = 7 sides.
Including those walls gives us the information we need to understand where the curved section of the bay starts and finishes.
Where Do You Want Your Curtains to Hang?
As with most curved bays, the position of the track depends largely on the length of curtains you want to hang.
You can position the track further back towards the window frames for shorter curtains, or bring it forward so longer curtains can hang freely in front of the window sill.
Option 1 — Short Curtains Hanging Inside the Bay
If you want shorter curtains, the track can be positioned further back inside the bay, closer to the window frames.
The curtains then hang inside the window sill and normally finish just above the top of it.
This keeps the complete curtain arrangement within the bay.
Option 2 — Longer Curtains Hanging in Front of the Window Sill
If you would prefer longer curtains, the track can be positioned further forward so the curtains hang freely in front of the window sill.
This allows you to have curtains that finish above a radiator or continue all the way down to the floor.
Unlike some other curved bay shapes, the window sill on this style of bay normally stays within the bay rather than continuing around onto the outer return walls.
This means the track can often follow the curved line across the windows and finish neatly where it meets the two side walls.
Does the Curtain Track Need to Follow All 7 Sides?
Not necessarily.
This is probably the most important thing to understand about this particular bay shape.
The two side walls are included when you measure the bay because they help us map the complete shape and understand where the curved window section finishes.
However, that does not automatically mean the curtain track should turn through a steep bend at each end and continue along those walls.
For many of these bays, the better arrangement is simply for the track to follow the gentle curve across the 5 windows and finish where the ends of the track meet the two side walls.
In this image below this shows how on this bay shape you can hang long curtains just within the bay. You don’t need to returns out of the bay for long curtains. Although you can if you want the curtains to clear more of the windows.
The measurements of the complete 7 sided shape give us the information needed to decide how the finished track should sit within your particular bay.
Which Curved 7 Sided Bay Should I Choose on the Order Form?
Our order form contains two different curved 7 sided bay templates:
- Curved 7 Sided Bay (7 windows)
- Curved 7 Sided Bay (5 windows)
If your curved section has 5 windows with an inward-facing wall at each end, the option you want is:

When you select it on the order form, the matching bay shape diagram will appear above so you can check that it looks like your window before continuing.
The Two Curved 7 Sided Bays Are Different Shapes
Both are described as curved 7 sided bays, but the seven sides are created differently.
The diagrams below are the easiest way to tell them apart.
Curved 7 Sided Bay (7 windows)
Choose this one if all 7 sides of your curved bay are windows.
Curved 7 Sided Bay (5 windows)
Choose this one if you have 5 curved windows with a side wall at each end.
Why Does Choosing the Correct 7 Sided Bay Shape Matter?
The bay shape you select determines which measurements we ask you to provide and how those measurements are used to map your window.
A bay made from 7 continuously curved windows is a different shape from a bay made from 5 curved windows enclosed by two side walls.
This means the measuring template for the 7-window version cannot simply be used for the 5-window version.
Choosing the correct template gives us the information needed to understand your actual bay and manufacture the track to suit it.

Once you have selected the correct bay shape, you can continue through the order form and choose how you want the track positioned.
We then use the measurements of your individual bay to work out the shape the finished track needs to follow.
The track is shaped here in our workshop before it is sent to you, making fitting considerably easier than having to form the bay shape yourself.
