Curved 5 Sided Bay Window Curtain Tracks
Yes, we can make a curtain track to fit this style of bay window exactly as it should.
A curved 5 sided bay normally has 5 windows that flow gently around the bay, rather than meeting at obvious sharp corners. The front edge of the window sill is also usually made up of 5 straight sections joined together with fairly shallow angles.
Although we call this a 5 sided bay, the curtain track itself is normally made with smooth curves rather than five straight sections with sharp bends.
This style of bay is particularly common in 1930s properties, and there are two main ways we can position the track depending on how you want your curtains to hang.

You Have Two Main Curtain Hanging Options
Once you know you have the curved 5 sided bay shown above, the next choice is where you want the curtains to hang.
The track can either sit further back inside the bay for shorter curtains, or just in front of the window sill with returns onto the side walls for longer curtains.
Option 1 — Short Curtains Hanging Inside the Bay
The first option is to position the curtain track further back inside the bay, closer to the window frames.
The curtains then hang inside the window sill and normally finish just above the top of the sill.
This is a good option if you want shorter curtains that stay completely within the bay.
Option 2 — Longer Curtains Hanging in Front of the Window Sill
If you would prefer longer curtains, we can make the track to follow the shape of the bay just in front of the window sill.
Instead of stopping at the sides of the bay, the track then curves out at both ends and continues onto the return walls.
This allows your curtains to hang freely in front of the sill — perhaps finishing above a radiator or continuing all the way down to the floor.
The returns also bring the curtains outside the bay at each side. This helps close the gaps between the curtains and the side walls and gives you more room to stack the curtains back away from the side windows when they are open.
Why Are the Returns Important on This Style of Bay?
On this type of curved bay, the window sill often does not finish exactly where the bay meets the side walls.
Instead, a short section of the sill continues around the corner and onto each return wall.
If you position the track in front of the sill for longer curtains but simply stop the track at the sides of the bay, the curtains can end up hanging alongside those short sections of sill.
This can cause the bottom of the curtains to be pushed out or hang awkwardly. You may also be left looking at a small section of window sill poking out beyond the side of the curtains.
Returning the track onto the side walls solves both problems. The curtains can hang freely in front of the complete sill and then finish neatly back towards the walls.
Which 5 Sided Bay Should I Choose on the Order Form?
This is where things can get a little confusing.
Our order form contains two different 5 sided bay templates:
- 5 Sided Bay (3 windows)
- Curved 5 Sided Bay (5 windows)
If your bay has 5 windows flowing around the curve, the option you want is:

When you select it on the order form, the matching bay shape diagram will appear above so you can check that it looks like your window.
The Two 5 Sided Bays Are Very Different Shapes
It may sound obvious when one option says 3 windows and the other says 5 windows, but this is an easy mistake to make.
Many people look at the front edge of their window sill, see 5 straight sections and immediately choose the first 5 sided option in the list.
The diagrams below make the difference much clearer.
