What Tools Do You Need to Fit a Bay Window Curtain Track?
You may be surprised how few tools you actually need to fit one of our made-to-measure bay window curtain tracks.
The track arrives already made to shape, so you’re fitting it into position rather than trying to bend or shape it yourself on site.
A Simple Guide Before You Start
If you’re wondering whether fitting a bay window curtain track needs lots of specialist tools, the answer is usually no.
For most customers, the basic tools needed are things they already own, or can easily borrow from a friend, family member or neighbour.
Watch This Quick Tools Overview
In this short video, I explain the basic tools you’ll need before fitting one of our curtain tracks.
The Basic Tools You’ll Need
You don’t need a van full of tools. For most installations, these are the main items you’ll need.
Step Ladders
You’ll need a safe pair of step ladders so you can comfortably reach the wall or ceiling where the track will be fitted.
Drill
A standard drill is needed to make the fixing holes for the brackets.
6mm Masonry Drill Bit
A good quality 6mm masonry drill bit will cover the normal wall and ceiling fitting situations shown in our fitting videos.
Power Driver or Screwdriver
A power driver makes the job quicker, but a normal manual screwdriver can also be used to drive the screws in.
Use the Supplied Fixings First
The plugs and screws supplied with our curtain tracks cover the vast majority of fitting situations.
My advice is to follow the fitting video for your particular bay track and fit the brackets using the supplied fixings first.
In most homes, that will be all you need.
Worried About Fitting to a Bay Window Ceiling?
Ceiling fixing is one of the things customers often worry about most, especially if they are not sure what is above the plasterboard.
In reality, it is extremely unlikely that every fixing point on a bay window ceiling will need special fixings. Usually, the supplied plugs and screws will work well for most brackets.
Occasionally, you may find one fixing point that feels weaker than the others. If that happens, a toggle bolt fixing can usually give that one bracket the extra support it needs.
Don’t Overthink It Before You Start
The best approach is to watch the fitting video for your track, follow the process shown, and use the supplied fixings first.
If you do come across a weak fixing point, you can simply pick up a pack of toggle bolts from a local hardware store and use one where extra support is needed.

Do I need specialist tools to fit a bay window curtain track?
No. In most cases, you only need step ladders, a drill, a 6mm masonry drill bit, and either a power driver or screwdriver.
Are the screws and plugs supplied?
Yes. The supplied fixings cover the vast majority of normal fitting situations.
Do I need to bend the curtain track myself?
No. Our bay window curtain tracks arrive already made to shape, so you are fitting the track rather than bending it yourself.
What if one fixing point feels weak?
If one fixing point feels weak, you may need an alternative fixing such as a toggle bolt for that particular bracket position. This is usually only needed occasionally, not across the whole track.
Should I buy toggle bolts before fitting?
Usually, no. Start by following the fitting video and using the supplied fixings. If you find one fixing point needs extra support, toggle bolts can be bought from most local hardware stores.
