- Pencil
- Step ladder
Step-by-Step: Fitting a Regular Ceiling-Fix Track
1) Mark the track position on the ceiling
Start by deciding exactly where the track needs to sit. In most cases, this will be just in front of the window frame so the curtains hang cleanly without fouling the window or wall.
Use a pencil to lightly mark a straight guide line on the ceiling. This makes it much easier to keep the track running true as you fix the brackets.
2) Position the brackets
The ceiling brackets are spaced evenly along the track. Offer the track up to the ceiling and mark through the fixing holes so you know exactly where each bracket will be secured.
Taking your time at this stage helps everything line up neatly later.
3) Drill and fix the brackets
Drill the fixing holes using the correct drill bit for your ceiling type. Insert the wall plugs, then fix the brackets securely to the ceiling.
If one fixing doesn’t feel as solid as you’d like, don’t worry — it’s usually just a case of adjusting slightly and re-fixing with the right plug.
4) Clip the track into place
Once the brackets are fitted, the track simply clips up into position. You’ll feel it click into place as it locates properly within each bracket.
Work along the length of the track, checking that it sits straight and secure.
5) Final checks before hanging curtains
Before hanging your curtains, give the track a gentle pull along its length to make sure everything feels firm and evenly supported.
Once you’re happy, you’re ready to hang your curtains and enjoy the finished result.

Plasterboard ceilings are very common and a lot stronger than you think. out tracks come with plenty of brackets to distribute the weight evenly.

Yes — straight tracks are generally straightforward to fit solo. Taking your time marking a couple of back of track fitting positions on the ceiling. I usually mark for each end and the middle. Then work from the middle this makes the job much easier.
I recommend you try the 3 step method I use myself.
1. simply drive the screws directly into the ceiling. then see what you hit. If it’s feel solid then the job is done.
2. If the fitting feels weak. Then reverse the screw out and slide the bracket to one side. Then drill the screw hole with a 6mm masonry drill bit. Then insert the supplied plug. Slide the bracket over the plug and drive the screw to secure the bracket.
3. If still not secure enough (very are) then use toggle bolts. See this page for more info.
