Can Someone Fit My Made-to-Measure Bay Track for Me?
If you don’t want to fit your bay window curtain track yourself, that doesn’t mean you need to choose a different type of track.
Plenty of customers prefer to have someone else do the fitting. You may not enjoy DIY, you may not have the time, or you may simply prefer to leave the drilling and fitting to someone else.
A competent local handyman, curtain fitter or similar tradesperson should normally be able to fit a made-to-measure bay track for you.
The important thing is to separate two decisions: which track do you want, and who do you want to fit it?

If You Need a Fitter Anyway, Which Track Do You Want Them to Fit?
If you already know you’re going to pay someone to fit your bay track, the need for a fitter is the same whichever type of track you choose.
So the real comparison isn’t between fitting a track yourself and paying someone else.
It’s between giving your fitter a made-to-measure bay track that’s ready to install, or asking them to turn a DIY track into a bay track before they can fit it.
Option 1 — Made-to-Measure Bay Track
Your fitter arrives and the track has already been:
- Cut to the correct size
- Bent to the shape of your bay
- Made with the bends in the correct positions
- Fitted with the required track components
They open the box, remove the track, and the fitting starts.
Option 2 — DIY Bay Track
With a typical DIY bay track, your fitter may start with a straight curtain track profile and a box of separate components.
Before the actual fitting can begin, they may need to:
- Work out where the bends need to be
- Bend the straight track to follow the shape of your bay
- Check and adjust the shape
- Cut the track to the required size
- Add the required components to the track
Then the fitting starts.

But Won’t the Made-to-Measure Track Cost More?
Quite possibly.
A made-to-measure bay track will usually cost more to buy than an off-the-shelf DIY track, and even after allowing for fitting, the made-to-measure route may still cost more overall.
So I don’t think the useful question is simply, “Which option is cheapest?”
The better question is whether the difference is worth paying for.
With a made-to-measure track, you’re paying for a track that has been manufactured specifically to the measurements and shape of your bay, arrives ready to fit and is backed by our 10-year guarantee.
A DIY track may be the right choice if keeping the initial cost as low as possible is your main priority. But it’s worth looking at the complete job and the finished track rather than comparing the track prices alone.
What Are You Left With When the Job Is Finished?
This is something that can easily be overlooked when comparing prices.

With the DIY route, your curtains are hanging from an off-the-shelf track that has been cut and bent to suit the window during installation. The quality and guarantee will depend on the particular track being supplied.
If you’re paying someone to fit your curtain track either way, it’s worth asking yourself which track you’d rather your curtains were hanging from in your bay for the next ten years.
What Happens If Something Goes Wrong?
There’s another difference worth thinking about before choosing which route to take.

With a DIY bay track, the track may need to be cut, bent and altered by your fitter before it can be installed.
Before that work starts, it’s worth asking what happens if the track is accidentally cut too short, bent incorrectly or damaged while it’s being prepared.
Who would be responsible for replacing it?
That’s something I’d recommend agreeing with your fitter before the first cut or bend is made.
Check the Returns Policy Before a DIY Track Is Altered
If you’re considering the DIY track route, it’s also worth checking the retailer’s returns policy before your fitter starts work.
Once a curtain track has been cut, bent or otherwise altered, your ability to return it may be very different from returning an unused product.
Again, I’d check this before installation rather than after something has gone wrong.
What If a Fitter Will Only Install Tracks They Supply?
Some curtain fitters only install tracks they supply themselves. That’s simply how they choose to work.
If you’ve already decided you want a made-to-measure bay track, don’t feel you have to change your choice of track simply because one fitter will only install tracks they supply.
There are plenty of other fitters and handymen who will be happy to fit a track you’ve supplied.
My advice is simply to keep looking. You can also send them our fitting video beforehand so they can see exactly what’s involved.
Not Wanting to Fit It Yourself Doesn’t Limit Your Choice of Track
If you don’t want to fit a bay track yourself, the fitting still needs to be done whichever product you choose.
That means you can choose the curtain track you actually want for your bay first, and then find someone locally who is happy to install it for you.

The important thing is to compare the complete job — not just the price of the track before any work has started.
