A practical two-layer curtain system

Is the Regular Double Bay Track right for you?

Choose this setup when you want sheer curtains at the window together with a separate pair of main curtains in front.

Sheers at the back

The rear track carries your sheer curtains close to the window for privacy and light control.

Main curtains in front

Your main curtains hang on their own track and can open and close without pulling the sheers with them.

Made for your bay

Both tracks are shaped before delivery using your measurements, so there is no bending or cutting to do at home.

How the Regular Double Bay Track works

The system uses two completely separate tracks. The rear track sits close to the window for the sheer curtains, while the front track carries the main curtains.

We normally position the tracks around 10cm apart. That gives the two layers enough space to move without rubbing or catching against one another.

  • Rear track for sheer curtains
  • Front track for main curtains
  • Approximately 10cm between the tracks

Watch how the two curtain tracks work together

This video shows how the rear sheer curtains and the front main curtains sit and move independently around the bay.

Two different jobs

The sheers and main curtains do not need to move together

In most installations, the sheer curtains stay closed across the windows for the majority of the time.

They normally only need to be opened occasionally for cleaning or access to the windows.

The main curtains are the pair you use every day, opening and closing across the bay independently of the sheers behind.

Curtain position

Your main curtains can finish inside or outside the bay

The best layout depends on your window, sill and where you want the main curtains to stack when they are open.

Both pairs within the bay

The sheer and main curtains can both hang and stack entirely within the bay.

Main curtains return out of the bay

The rear sheers stay within the bay while the front track continues onto straight returns outside the bay.

Not sure?

The order process shows the different layouts so you can choose the one that best matches how you want your curtains to hang.

Centre options

A simple join or an overlap for the main curtains

The rear sheer track normally uses a centre joining splice, creating one continuous track across the bay.

On the front track, you can also choose a joining splice or add an overlap arm if you want one main curtain to overlap the other slightly at the centre.

The overlap is optional. It is mainly about how you want the two main curtains to meet when closed.

Fixing options

Ceiling fitted within the bay

The two tracks are normally ceiling fixed within the bay. If the front track returns outside the bay, those straight return sections can be wall fixed where needed.

Rear track

Usually ceiling fitted inside the bay close to the windows.

Front track

Ceiling fitted through the bay with suitable wall-fixed returns available outside the bay.

Made to line up correctly

We use the information you provide to work out how the two tracks need to sit in relation to one another.

Curtain compatibility

Designed for conventional curtain headings

The Regular Double Bay Track works particularly well where you have lightweight sheers behind a pair of conventional main curtains.

Pencil pleat

A straightforward option for both sheer and main curtains.

Pinch pleat

Works well for the main curtains and can also be used on the rear track where appropriate.

Want Wave curtains?

If you specifically want Wave heading on the front curtain, one of our dedicated Double Wave track options may be the better choice.

Before you order

A few common questions

Why do I need two separate tracks?

One track carries the sheers and the other carries the main curtains. Keeping them separate allows each layer to move without dragging or catching against the other.

How far apart are the two tracks?

We normally allow around 10cm between the rear sheer track and the front main curtain track.

Do the sheer curtains need to open?

They can, but in many installations they remain closed most of the time and are only opened when access to the windows is needed.

Can the main curtains return outside the bay?

Yes. The front track can continue out of the bay onto suitable straight returns while the rear sheer track stays inside the bay.

Can I have an overlap at the centre?

Yes. An overlap arm can be added to the front track if you want one main curtain to overlap the other slightly when closed.

Do I need to bend the tracks myself?

No. Both tracks are shaped to your bay measurements before delivery.
