Is the Modern Double Track right for you?

Choose this system when you want sheers behind your main curtains and prefer a shallow, rounded track that sits discreetly against the ceiling.

Two independent curtain layers

The rear track carries your sheers while the front track carries your main curtains, allowing each layer to move separately.

Rounded 12mm profile

The shallow curved front gives the track a softer, contemporary appearance when ceiling fitted.

Made for your bay

Both tracks are shaped before delivery using your measurements. There is no bending or cutting to do at home.

How the Modern Double Bay Track works

The system uses two completely separate curtain tracks. The rear track carries the sheer curtains and the front track carries the main curtains.

The tracks are normally positioned around 10cm apart. This gives the two curtain layers enough room to move without rubbing or pulling against one another.

  • Rear track for sheer curtains
  • Front track for main curtains
  • Approximately 10cm between tracks
  • Both tracks shaped to your bay

When the appearance of the track matters

The main difference between Modern Double and the other double-track options is the shape and depth of the track profile.

The Modern track has a gently rounded front and sits only around 12mm deep when ceiling fitted, helping both rails blend into the ceiling more discreetly.

It is not a recessed track, but it gives a clean, understated appearance without cutting a channel into the ceiling.

Curtain position

Choose how your two curtain layers will hang

The rear sheers normally stay within the bay. Your main curtains can either remain within the bay as well or return outside it.

Both pairs within the bay

Both tracks finish inside the bay, with the sheers and main curtains stacking within the window area.

Main curtains return outside

The rear track stays within the bay while the front track continues onto straight returns outside the window.

Not sure?

The order process shows the different layouts so you can choose the arrangement that best suits your window and curtains.

The rear curtain layer

Your sheers usually stay within the bay

Sheer or voile curtains normally sit close to the windows on the rear track.

In many homes they remain closed for most of the day, giving privacy while still allowing natural light into the room.

The main curtains then open and close independently on the front track.

Centre options

Choose how your main curtains meet

The rear sheer track normally uses a centre joining splice to create one continuous track across the bay.

The front track can also use a simple centre join, or you can choose an overlap arm if you want one main curtain to overlap the other slightly when closed.

The overlap is optional and mainly affects the finished appearance where the main curtains meet.

Fixing options

Ceiling fitted within the bay

The two tracks are normally ceiling fitted through the bay. If the front track continues outside the bay, suitable straight returns can be wall fixed.

Rear track

Ceiling fitted close to the windows for the sheer curtains.

Front track

Ceiling fitted through the bay for the main curtains, with wall-fixed returns available where required.

Shallow ceiling profile

The rounded 12mm Modern profile keeps both tracks close to the ceiling for a discreet finished appearance.

Curtain compatibility

Suitable for most conventional curtain headings

The Modern Double Track works well with hook-based curtain headings on both the rear and front tracks.

Pencil pleat

A straightforward option for sheers and conventional main curtains.

Pinch pleat

A popular choice for the main curtain layer and suitable for the rear track where appropriate.

Want Wave curtains?

If you specifically want Wave heading, choose one of our dedicated Wave track options rather than adapting this standard double-track setup.

A few common questions

What is the difference between Modern Double and Slimline Double?

Both use two separate tracks for sheers and main curtains. Modern Double has a shallow rounded front profile, while Slimline Double has a slightly deeper, squarer profile.

How far apart are the two tracks?

We normally allow around 10cm between the rear sheer track and the front main curtain track.

Is the Modern Double Track recessed into the ceiling?

No. It is surface mounted. The shallow rounded profile simply allows it to sit very discreetly against the ceiling.

Can the main curtains return outside the bay?

Yes. The rear sheer track can stay within the bay while the front track continues onto suitable straight returns.

Can I have an overlap at the centre?

Yes. An overlap arm can be added to the front track if you want one main curtain to overlap the other slightly when closed.

Do I need to bend either track myself?

No. Both tracks are shaped to your bay measurements before delivery.
