Will Wave Curtains Bought Elsewhere Work with Our Bay Track?

This is something I get asked quite regularly.

A customer has found the made-to-measure Wave curtains they want from an online curtain company, but when they come to choose the track they discover that the company only supplies straight Wave tracks.

They then get in touch with me and ask the obvious question:

Will the Wave curtains I am buying from another company work with one of your bay window Wave tracks?

In most cases, the answer is yes.

Before You Order Your Curtains, Send Me a Photo

Even though the curtains and track will normally be compatible, I would much rather check the complete setup before you commit to buying either of them.

Bay windows come in lots of different shapes and sizes, and there can be other things to consider besides the Wave system itself.

Send me a photo of your bay window and tell me a little about the Wave curtains you are thinking of ordering and how you would like everything to work.

I can then look at the bay as a whole and make sure the track and curtains should work together properly.

What Will I Look At?

I am not simply checking whether your new Wave curtains can attach to the track.

I will look at the shape of your bay, where the track will need to sit, how much room is available for the curtains and whether there are any features of the window that could affect the finished installation.

This might include things such as deep window sills, radiators, shutters, window handles, coving or other obstructions.

I can also look at whether ceiling or wall fitting would work best and where the track needs to be positioned so your curtains can move around the bay properly.

If I can see something that may cause a problem, I can tell you before you spend money on made-to-measure curtains and a new track.

Why Do Many Curtain Companies Only Offer Straight Wave Tracks?

Making Wave curtains and making a curtain track to follow the shape of an individual bay window are two quite different jobs.

A straight Wave track can be supplied in a standard length or cut to size, but a bay window track needs to be made specifically for the shape and measurements of the window.

Every bend needs to be positioned correctly and formed to the right angle so the Wave gliders can continue to move smoothly around the bay.

Your Wave Track Is Made to Match Your Bay

Your Wave bay track is made from the measurements of your individual window rather than being supplied as a straight track for you to bend yourself.

We form the bends here in our workshop and position them to match the shape of your bay.

The Wave gliders are already fitted inside the track, so once the track is installed your curtain hooks simply connect to the gliders.

This allows your curtains to follow the shape of the bay rather than having to hang from a straight track positioned across the front of it.

Ceiling or Wall Fitting?

Our Wave bay tracks can be supplied for either ceiling or wall fitting.

For many bay windows, ceiling fitting is our preferred option because it gives more freedom to position the track where the curtains have enough room to form their Wave shape and travel around the bends.

Wall fitting can also work very well where the layout of the bay makes it the better choice.

This is another reason why sending a photo before you order can be useful. I can see the window rather than asking you to work everything out for yourself.

What About 60mm and 80mm Wave Gliders?

Wave tracks are normally supplied with either 60mm or 80mm spacing between the gliders.

If your curtain maker has specified which spacing they require, let me know when you get in touch or when you place your order.

What If You Make a Measuring Mistake?

Ordering a made-to-measure track can feel a little daunting if you have never measured a bay window before.

If the finished track does not fit because a measurement was entered incorrectly, we will work with you to find out what went wrong and remake the track free of charge.

Problems are rare, but knowing that support is there takes much of the worry out of ordering a track made specifically for your window.
