Ceiling Mounted Bay Window Curtain Tracks

Yes, we make made-to-measure ceiling mounted curtain tracks for bay windows. In fact, ceiling fixing is the solution we recommend for most bays.

It allows your track to follow a smoother route around the bay while positioning your curtains where they will hang and operate at their best.

Why Do We Recommend Ceiling Fitting for Most Bay Windows?

Ceiling fixing gives us much more freedom to position your curtain track in the right place. We are not restricted by the length of a wall bracket or by the position of the window frames.

This normally results in better-hanging curtains, smoother operation around the bay and a much neater finished appearance.

When Would You Need a Wall Fitted Bay Window Track?

Ceiling fitting is our preferred option for most bay windows, but it is not always possible.

A wall fitted track may be the better choice when you have:

  • Very deep decorative coving around the bay ceiling
  • A beam running across the front of the bay
  • Another obstruction that prevents the track being fixed in the right ceiling position

Our wall fitted bay window curtain track buying guide explains what can be achieved and the wall bracket projection options available with each track.

Your Curtains Can Hang in Front of the Window Sill

One of the biggest benefits of ceiling fitting is that the track can usually be positioned far enough forward for long curtains to hang naturally in front of the window sill.

With a wall fitted track, the available wall brackets are often not long enough to bring the track beyond a deep sill. The curtains are then pushed forward by the sill instead of hanging straight down.

Ceiling fitting avoids this problem and can make a huge difference to the finished appearance of your curtains.

Your Curtains Can Return Neatly Outside the Bay

A ceiling mounted track also makes it much easier to return the curtains beyond the bay window on each side.

This can create a much more balanced appearance when the curtains are closed. When open, the curtains can stack back more neatly without covering as much of the bay window.

A wall fitted bay track can sometimes achieve a return, but the available wall and return-wall bracket positions may limit what is possible.

Smoother Bends Make the Curtains Easier to Use

Positioning the track correctly allows us to create a much smoother route around the bay.

The curves and bends do not need to be as severe, so the gliders travel around the track with less resistance. This makes your curtains easier to open and close by hand.

Smoother operation also means the curtains are not being dragged around tight bends each day. This helps them keep their shape and reduces unnecessary wear.

Is My Bay Window Ceiling Strong Enough?

Many customers worry that their bay ceiling may not be strong enough to support a curtain track.

In almost all cases, the ceiling is stronger than it first appears when suitable fixings are used.

We also supply approximately twice as many ceiling brackets as many other track makers. On average, there is a support bracket around every 30cm, with additional support positioned around the bends where needed.

Spreading the load across more brackets means each individual fixing has much less work to do.

Which Ceiling Mounted Bay Track Do We Recommend?

For most hand-drawn bay windows, we recommend our Regular Bay Track.

It is a genuinely good-quality hand-drawn track that operates smoothly around bay window bends. It is also our lowest-priced bay track option, making it excellent value for most customers.

We carry plenty of stock and it is usually the quickest of our bay tracks to manufacture.

Are There Other Ceiling Mounted Track Options?

All our bay window curtain tracks can be ceiling fitted, but the Regular Bay Track is the one we recommend for most standard hand-drawn curtains.

If you would prefer a narrower and more discreet profile, you may wish to consider our Slimline Bay Track .

If you are planning to hang wave curtains, you will need one of our Wave Bay Window Curtain Tracks .

For curtains that need to be opened and closed using a control cord, take a look at our Corded Bay Window Curtain Track .

Made to Fit Your Individual Bay Window

Every track is made to the measurements and shape of your individual bay window.

You only pay for the overall track length. We do not add an extra charge for every bend, which can make a substantial difference to the price of tracks for larger or multi-sided bays.

Our measuring videos guide you through each stage, and your order is checked before the track is made.

Your finished track is covered by our 10-year guarantee. If it does not fit because a measurement was entered incorrectly, we will also remake it free of charge.

Still Not Sure?

Every bay window is slightly different. If you are still unsure whether a ceiling mounted track is right for your bay, feel free to ask us a question.

Tell us a little about your window and we will help point you towards the most suitable option.
