Curved Bay Curtain Track with Returns for Floor-Length Curtains
Ceiling-Fitted Track Lets Floor-Length Curtains Hang Freely
If you’re fitting floor-length curtains in a curved bay, the best option is a ceiling-fixed curtain track with returns. This positions the curtains just in front of the windowsill so they hang freely without being pushed out. The returns take the track out of the bay and back to the wall, letting the curtains wrap neatly around the sill ends. That way they stack off the windows, give a clean vertical drop, and allow plenty of natural light into the room when open.

Ceiling Fixing for the Correct track position
Many curved bays have very little or no wall space above the windows. That’s why ceiling fixing is usually the best option:
- The track fits flush to the ceiling — no bulky battens or visible gaps.
- .Curtains hang vertically, free of the sill edge.
- Our metal tracks are strong enough to hold even heavy, lined curtains securely in place.
Worried your ceiling isn’t strong enough? Don’t be. We supply plugs and screws that work in 95% of situations. For the rare occasions where you need extra security, toggle fixings are a reliable solution. They’re easy to find at Screwfix or most DIY stores.
Adding Returns to Block Side Light
One of the big advantages of a made-to-measure curved track is that you can include returns at the ends. These are small extensions that take the track out of the bay and back to the wall.
- They block light leaking down the sides of your curtains.
- They let the curtains sit snugly against the wall for a blackout effect.
- They give a more professional, finished look.
- Perfect for bedrooms, nurseries, or anywhere you want the room as dark as possible.
Another option, if the curtains are only hanging within the bay, is to ask us to curve the track ends back towards the side walls inside the bay. This closes any gaps between the curtain edges and the bay walls.
Fixing the returns: If your bay ceiling is the same height as the room ceiling, the returns are normally ceiling-fixed. If the bay ceiling is lower, the returns are wall-fixed instead (like in the example photo at the top of this page). Don’t worry — we’ll work out the right brackets for you when we make your track.
How We Make It Work
The process is straightforward and designed to take the stress out of ordering:
- Send us photos and measurements of your bay.
- We draw out a true template of your bay shape in our workshop.
- The metal track is bent to match that template — with gentle curves and neat returns.
- Your finished track arrives ready to fit, complete with all the brackets and fixings you’ll need.
It’s easier than most people expect, and the result is a track that looks like it was built into your bay from day one. And because we review your measurements and photos before making anything, you can order with confidence.

This “Top View” of the bay shows how the custom made curtain track allows for the short curtains to hang down to the top of the sill. While also (returning) curving out of the bay on the side walls. So the curtains when open can hang clear of all the windows giving maximum light into the room.
