Curved Bay Curtain Track with Returns – Ceiling Fixed for Sill Length Curtains
If you’re looking to fit sill length curtains in a curved bay, the best solution is a ceiling-fixed curtain track with returns. Unlike poles or DIY tracks, a made-to-measure curved track follows the exact shape of your bay, so your curtains glide smoothly, hang neatly, and close without gaps. Adding returns at the ends also helps block side light and gives your bay a more professional, finished look..

Ceiling Fixing for Strength and Neatness
Many curved bays have very little wall space above the windows. That’s why ceiling fixing is nearly always the best option:
- It creates a neat, flush finish with no bulky battens.
- The discreet brackets are barely visible once the curtains are up.
- Our metal tracks are strong enough to hold even heavy, lined curtains securely in place.
So if you’ve been worrying that your ceiling won’t be strong enough — don’t.
We supply plugs and screws that work in 95% of situations. For the rare occasions when you need something more secure,
these toggle fixings
are a very reliable solution. They’re easily available from Screwfix and other DIY stores, so you won’t have any trouble getting hold of them.
Gentle Curves vs. Sharp Bends
When it comes to shaping a custom curved bay track, sharp angles don’t look great — and they don’t work well for curtains either.
That’s why we recommend using a rolling bend to create gentle curves inside the bay. This makes the track more pleasing to the eye and ensures your curtains glide smoothly around the curve.
The only sharper bends you’ll see are right at the ends, where the track returns out of the bay and onto the side walls. Assuming you don’t want your curtains to hang within the bay only.
Adding Returns to Block Side Light
One of the big advantages of a made-to-measure curved track is that you can include returns at the ends. These are small extensions that take the track out of the bay and back to the wall.
Another option if the curtains are only hanging within the bay. It to ask us to curve the ends of the track back to the side walls within the bay. This closes any gaps between the side walls and the outside curtain edges.
- They give you a bay track with returns for light blocking.
- They help your curtains sit snugly against the wall for a blackout effect.
- They give a more professional, finished look.
Perfect for bedrooms, nurseries, or anywhere you want to block out as much light as possible.
How We Make It Work
The process is straightforward:
- You send us photos and measurements of your bay.
- We draw out a true template of the shape.
- In our workshop, we bend the metal track to match that template — with gentle curves and neat returns.
- The finished track arrives ready to fit, complete with all the brackets and fixings you’ll need.
It’s easier than most people expect, and you’ll end up with a track that looks as if it was built into your bay from day one.
Customer Question
“I love my new curved bay, but I’m worried about how the curtains will fit. Can the ceiling really hold them? And how do you shape the track at the ends?”
— Gill, Yorkshire
Lee’s Advice
Ceiling fixing is the best option for this type of bay. After nearly 30 years of fitting tracks, I can reassure you that the ceiling will be more than strong enough. We also recommend a gentle curve within the bay for a neater finish, with sharper bends only on the returns at each end.

This “Top View” of the bay shows how the custom made curtain track allows for the short curtains to hang down to the top of the sill. While also (returning) curving out of the bay on the side walls. So the curtains when open can hang clear of all the windows giving maximum light into the room.
