Should You Choose a Made-to-Measure Bay Window Curtain Track?
If you have never bought a made-to-measure curtain track before, it is natural to wonder whether it is worth choosing one instead of buying a DIY track from a shop.
The main difference is that a made-to-measure track is manufactured specifically for your bay window. The overall size, bend positions and bend angles are prepared before the track is delivered.
This removes much of the measuring, shaping and repeated adjustment normally involved with a DIY bay track.
Made to Match the Shape of Your Bay
We have helped thousands of customers hang curtains in almost every bay window shape imaginable.
Some bays have two bends. Others have five, six or even more. The sides may be gently angled, tightly angled or almost square.
Your track is made to match the measurements and shape of your individual bay rather than being supplied as a standard length that you then have to bend yourself.
This gives you a track that follows the bay more accurately and creates a much neater finished installation.
The Bends Are Made in the Correct Positions
Getting the bend positions right is one of the biggest problem areas when fitting a shop-bought DIY bay track.
If a bend starts too early or too late, the track will not follow the window correctly. This can make the track difficult to fix and may leave the curtains hanging in the wrong position.
With our tracks, the bend positions are worked out from the measurements you provide and formed before the track leaves our workshop.
This removes one of the most difficult and time-consuming parts of fitting a bay window curtain track.
The Bends Are Formed to the Correct Angles
The angle of each bend is just as important as its position.
With a DIY metal track, it is easy to make a bend too shallow or too tight. Trying to open or close the bend afterwards can sometimes damage or distort the track.
Plastic tracks can be difficult in a different way. They may spring back after bending, leaving the curve too wide, or become too tight and cause the curtains to bunch up as they pass around the corner.
We form each bend to suit the measurements and angles of your individual bay. This gives the gliders a smoother route and helps the curtains flow around the track more easily.
Much Easier and Faster to Fit
A shaped bay track may sound as though it would be harder to install than a straight curtain track. In reality, most of the difficult work has already been completed before it reaches you.
Your track arrives prepared to the correct overall size, with the bends in the right places and formed to the correct angles.
You do not have to keep lifting the track into the bay, taking it down, adjusting a bend and then checking it again.
Once the brackets are fitted, installing one of our tracks can be as easy as fitting a straight curtain track — and sometimes easier than trying to shape a DIY bay track in the room.
Your Curtains Glide More Smoothly
Smooth curtain operation comes from several parts of the track system working together.
- Good-quality track and internal components
- Bends formed in the correct positions
- Angles made to match the shape of your bay
- A smooth route around every corner
- Silicone lubrication applied before the track leaves our workshop
When all these details are right, your curtains can glide around the bay with much less resistance.
Which Made-to-Measure Bay Track Do We Recommend?
For most hand-drawn bay window curtains, we recommend our Regular Bay Track.
It is a genuinely good-quality track that operates smoothly around bay window bends and works well for the majority of homes.
It is also our lowest-priced bay track option, making it excellent value. We carry plenty of stock and it is usually the quickest of our bay tracks to manufacture.
Are There Other Made-to-Measure Track Options?
The Regular Bay Track is the one we recommend for most standard hand-drawn curtains, but other made-to-measure options are available where you need a different appearance or method of operation.
If you would prefer a narrower and more discreet profile, you may wish to consider our Slimline Bay Track .
If you are planning to hang wave curtains, you will need one of our Wave Bay Window Curtain Tracks .
For curtains that need to be opened and closed using a control cord, take a look at our Corded Bay Window Curtain Track .
No Extra Charge for Every Bend
A more complicated bay window shape does not automatically mean your track will cost more.
Unlike suppliers who charge an additional amount for every bend, we calculate the price from the overall length of your chosen track.
Whether your bay has two bends or several, you only pay for the total track length.
This can make a substantial difference to the price of tracks for larger, curved or multi-sided bays.
Measuring Help at Every Stage
One of the biggest worries when buying a made-to-measure track is getting the measurements right.
We have created a growing collection of step-by-step measuring videos to guide you through the process.
Printable measuring templates are also available to help you record the sizes clearly and check the shape of your bay.
Your submitted measurements are checked before manufacturing begins. Where a size appears unusual or does not match the expected shape, we can ask you to confirm it before the track is made.
Personally Checked Before We Make Your Track
Your order is not simply passed straight into production.
I personally look over the measurements and compare them with the photo of your bay window before your track is made.
This gives us another opportunity to spot a measurement that may have been entered incorrectly or a detail about the bay that needs checking.
Problems are rare, but carrying out these checks gives you much more reassurance than ordering a standard track and trying to solve everything during fitting.
Free Remake if Something Goes Wrong
Even with careful measuring and checking, many customers still worry about what would happen if the finished track did not fit.
If something has gone wrong, we work with you to understand what caused the problem and how the measurements need to be corrected.
We will then remake the track quickly, with no additional charge to you.
This gives you the confidence to measure and order without worrying that one small mistake could leave you with an unusable track.
Covered by Our 10-Year Guarantee
All our made-to-measure curtain tracks are manufactured using good-quality track and components.
They are covered by our 10-year guarantee when used normally in a domestic setting.
We want you to have a track that continues to operate smoothly and reliably for many years after it has been installed.
