Why Choose a Pull Cord Bay Window Curtain Track?
A pull cord track allows you to open and close your curtains without drawing them around the bay by hand.
You may prefer cord operation because the curtains are large or heavy. It can also be useful when furniture, a table, a window seat or another obstruction makes it difficult to reach the middle of the bay.
Most people searching for a corded bay track already know why they want one. The more important question is whether the cord system has been designed properly for the extra size and weight of bay window curtains.
Would a Hand-Drawn Track Be More Suitable?
If you do not need cord operation, a hand-drawn track is normally the simpler and lower-priced option.
Our Regular Bay Track is the option we recommend for most bay windows where the curtains can be comfortably opened and closed by hand. plus you can order curtain draw rods to pull the curtains across the bay. So you don’t have to touch the curtains.
A Separate Cord Control for Each Curtain
Unlike many DIY corded bay tracks, our system has a separate cord control on each side of the bay.
The cord on one side operates one curtain, while the cord on the opposite side operates the other curtain.
This means you only move the weight of one curtain at a time rather than trying to move a full pair of large bay window curtains using one cord control.
Bay window curtains are often much wider and heavier than curtains fitted across an ordinary straight window. Dividing the load between two controls makes the track noticeably easier to use.
Less Effort When Pulling the Cords
Moving one curtain at a time requires much less pulling force.
This gives the cord action a lighter and more controlled feel, particularly where you have long or heavy curtains.
It also allows you to adjust each curtain independently. You can fully open one side while leaving the other partly or fully closed if that suits the room.
Less Strain on the Track Components
Reducing the amount of curtain weight being moved at one time also reduces the load placed on the internal track components.
The cord, gliders, pulleys and master carriers do not have to pull both curtains around every bend at the same time.
This helps the system operate more smoothly while reducing unnecessary wear during everyday use.
It is particularly important on bay windows because every bend adds some resistance as the curtains move around the track.
Less Downward Force on the Outside Brackets
Pulling down on a cord creates force at the outside end of the curtain track.
When a system requires a lot of effort to move both curtains, that force can place repeated strain on the outside fixing bracket.
Because our system only moves one curtain at a time, much less pulling force is normally needed. This helps protect the outside brackets and reduces the risk of the fixings gradually working loose over time.
All Our Corded Tracks Comply Fully with Child Safety Laws
All our cord operated curtain tracks comply fully with current child safety laws.
Each cord control is supplied with the correct safety tensioner and clear fitting instructions.
This keeps the cord securely tensioned against the wall while still allowing the curtains to operate smoothly.
The product page and fitting instructions explain the cord position and how the supplied safety tensioner should be installed.
Made to Follow the Shape of Your Bay
Every corded track is made to the measurements and shape of your individual bay window.
We position the bends in the correct places and form them to match the angles of your bay.
Creating a smoother and more accurate route around the window reduces resistance and helps the cord system work at its best.
It also makes fitting considerably quicker and easier than trying to shape a DIY corded track yourself.
Can a Pull Cord Bay Track Be Ceiling or Wall Fitted?
Yes. Our corded bay window curtain track can be supplied for either ceiling or wall fixing using the appropriate brackets.
For most bays, ceiling fixing is our preferred option because it gives more freedom to position the track correctly and normally produces a smoother route around the window.
You can find out more in our Ceiling Mounted Bay Window Curtain Tracks Buying Guide .
Wall fixing may still be the right solution where deep coving, a beam or another obstruction prevents ceiling installation.
Which Pull Cord Bay Window Track Do We Recommend?
For cord operated bay window curtains, we recommend our custom-made Corded Bay Window Curtain Track.
It is designed specifically for bay windows and is supplied with an independent cord control on each side.
This gives you lighter operation, reduces strain on the track and brackets, and allows each curtain to be positioned independently.
Are There Other Corded Track Options?
If you are hanging wave curtains, you will need our Corded Wave Bay Window Curtain Track .
If cord operation is not essential, our Regular Bay Track is the hand-drawn option we recommend for most bay windows.
Made to Fit Your Individual Bay Window
Bay windows vary considerably in their size, number of sides and corner angles.
We make your track to the measurements and shape of your individual bay, including the position and angle of every bend.
You only pay for the overall track length. We do not add an extra charge for every bend.
Our measuring videos guide you through each stage, and your order is checked before the track is made.
Your finished track is covered by our 10-year guarantee. If it does not fit because a measurement was entered incorrectly, we will also remake it free of charge.
Still Not Sure?
Every bay window is slightly different. If you are unsure whether a pull cord track is the right option for your bay, feel free to ask us a question.
